A tour to the Robot Town Sagami (Half Day Course)

In order to protect our life from natural disasters that may happen any time and to address the rapidly aging population, practical application and diffusion of life support robots are being promoted in the Robot Town Sagami. The participants will visit the Kanagawa Industrial Technology Center that leads and coordinates the research and development activities in the Town, and then a facility that gives visitors a hands-on experience with robots in a home-like environment.

A tour to the Shin-Kawasaki Sozo no Mori Science Park

The participants will visit KBIC, an incubation center of R&D companies, and NANOBIC, a center that provides advanced nano and micro equipment for use by companies, that are located in the Shin-Kawasaki Sozo no Mori Science Park, which is the base for research and development that create new scientific technologies and industries to support the progress in the 21st century. The Science Park has been established by Kawasaki City in an industry-academia public-private partnership. The participants will also visit a venture company, a KBIC tenant that manufactures small-sized electric cars.

A tour to understand the technological capabilities of "small- and medium-sized companies in Kawasaki"

Kawasaki City is the proud home of small- and medium-sized companies that own excellent technological capabilities. The participants will see the skills of workers highly experienced in a variety of areas such as metal, plastic and paper processing, painting, electricity, constriction, interior decorating, and car repair and maintenance. Then, they will visit a venture company that has created the "ElecTrike," an e-trike equipped with the most-advanced technologies. The vehicle has received a type approval certificate from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

A tour to the Kanazawa Industrial Park
and Kanazawa Industrial Complex

The participants will go to the industrial park in Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama, where many companies, from those in the metal and machine industries to those in the most-advanced chemical and bio industries, are based. They will tour the Yokohama Kanazawa High-Tech Center and the Yokohama Kanazawa High-Tech Center Techno-Core. They will also visit a company that makes precise metal molds for use for cars, food containers and IT devices.

for a hands-on experience in aizome (indigo dyeing)

The participants will visit a folk house museum that exhibits Japanese folk houses and ethnic materials and have a hands on experience in dyeing, which is one of the traditional crafts. Later, they will take a walk in the Ikuta Ryokuchi Park and see the facilities in the park.

The participants will visit the Kawasaki Zero-Emission Industrial Park that aims to realize the minimization of environmental burden by controlling, as much as possible, emissions and by-products generated from business activities, reusing and recycling the above, and through a circulatory use of energy, etc. This industrial park is a model facility of Kawasaki Eco Town Plan.

A tour of cutting-edge environmental technologies

The tour focuses on energy and water that are the inevitably important issues when we deal with the environmental problems of the 21st century. The participants will visit a highly efficient LNG thermal power plant with a waste heat recovery- based combined cycle power generation system, and then, an advanced water treatment facility that focuses on three environmental measures, namely, environmental improvement, energy utilization, and resource recycling.

A tour of strategic research institutes that deal
with global environmental issues

With the development of the economy, population increase and urbanization have progressed and environmental (global warming, depletion of resources, and extinction of biological species) and poverty issues are worsening in the Asia- Pacific region. The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies mainly studies solutions for the issues in the region cooperatively with the government, research institutes, companies, NGOs, international organizations, etc. of respective countries and makes various proposals for the building of a sustainable society where people live happily, while protecting the environment. This is where the participants will visit. Then they will go to Minato Mirai, a futuristic area in Yokohama.

A tour of Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Comprehensive Special Zone for International Competitiveness Development

The participants will visit the Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Comprehensive Special Zone for International Competitiveness Development where activities are promoted mainly by global companies for the vitalization of pharmaceutical and medical equipment industries and the realization of economic growth and life innovation, while Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City and Kawasaki City utilize to the fullest the local resources such as industrial infrastructure accumulated in the Keihin Coastal Area.

Sightseeing tour in Kamakura and Enoshima

Sightseeing in Kamakura, an ancient city of samurai. The participants will walk around the area, seeing the Great Buddha (giant Buddha statue), temples, and streetscape. Then, they will go for a walk on Enoshima in Sagami Bay, a scenic island representative of Kanagawa Prefecture.
